Sound isolation headphones
View larger. Sound Isolation Headphones Minimize Environmental Noise
Sound isolation headphones let you hear greater music detail at a lower volume than is possible with normal headphones. These headphones have an angled acoustic design that creates a perfect seal between the ambient sound source and the ear canal, thus eliminating unwanted background noise while delivering sound directly to your ears. Even at a moderate volume setting, you can still discern music detail without noise distractions from the environment. Earphone sleeves are available in three sizes to provide the best fit.

FullSound feature FullSound for Richer, Fuller Audio
The Muse uses Philips’ FullSound technology so you can experience CD music without any distortion. Based on an audio post-processing algorithm, FullSound combines Philips’ expertise in music reproduction with the power of the latest generation Digital Signal Processor (DSP). The result is fuller bass with more depth and impact, boosted voice and instrument clarity, and rich detail.

Surround Sound Surround Sound Creates Natural Soundstage
Surround for movies is an advanced audio technology that recreates a natural soundstage with sound elements both individually and precisely localized. The processed sound elements are then directly delivered to each ear via in-ear headphones. The result puts the listener right in the middle of the action for an immersive surround experience.

Together with a full color menu, the large screen allows easy navigation of media files for a complete multimedia experience on the go. Pretty cool

By Loren w Christensen

Five stars for product quality and two stars for instructions. It took an evening to figure out the instructions and match them with what was appearing on the PC. Then after some trial and error working the device itself, I finally got it playing.

It was worth the effort though. The sound quality of the headphones is incredible.

It’s quite small and a tad fragile so I don’t know how it’s going to hold up. But right now it’s a quality device with amazing sound reproduction.

A credible alternative to other players

By Busy Executive

The Philips GoGear player is an interesting item. It’s well made and solid, and it has a number of fairly unique features, especially at this price point. But whether it makes sense for you probably depends a lot on exactly what you want to do with it, and exactly how many devices you prefer to own.

First, the good news.

The player itself seems to be very well made. You might prefer Apple’s style, but the Philips seems more rugged to me. It has a slot for a microSD memory card, giving you 8GB of built-in memory, plus up to 32GB of external memory (actually, it’s really unlimited, since you can in theory have many microSD cards). The player handles lots of different sound and video formats, from conventional MP3 to lossless formats, Apple AAC and Microsoft’s WMA. Anything I threw at it simply played.

Philips makes a lot of the noise-reducing earphones included with the GoGear. Yes, they are better than what you find in the box with, say, an iPod. But no, they aren’t anywhere near as good as the Shure SE530′s I’ve grown accustomed to (but I wouldn’t expect them to be…the Shure earphones alone cost several times what this player costs). Still, the Philips earphones are comfortable and sound reasonably good, and Philips so-called “FullSound” seems to be tailored to them.

The display is fairly bright and clear, and I had no issues with the touch screen. Even though I’m not a big fan of touch screens (I like those old fashioned keyboards), it was plenty easy to use and didn’t have the frustration factor I sometimes get with other devices. Although hard to see in bright daylight situations, I found the screen more than adequate for most uses. It’s a true 16:9 form factor, so movies play fairly well. Still, my aging eyes struggle to see most movies on any screen this small – it’s not a feature I make much use of.

One small note is that if you have headphones that present a difficult load (many over-the-ear Senheisers, for example), then you may find the amp in the Philips to be inadequate. I have a pair of Senheiser HD650 headphones, and I could not get them to play decently with the Philips, even through a separate headphone amp.

Battery life is good, although as other reviewers note, not quite the 24 hours Philips advertises. To top it off, the Philips is one of the few players to include an honest-to-goodness FM receiver, so it’s possible to receive over-the-air FM broadcasts.

The player comes with Philips software, although as many reviewers have commented, it’s a bit quirky. Luckily there are several alternatives if you don’t like the Philips Songbird software.

As a stand-alone media player, I give the Philips high marks.

But, where I have reservations is when I think of the alternatives. My car, for instance, has an integrated iPod system that lets me operate my iPod through my car’s built-in sound system. I can see song information on my car’s display, I can navigate through my collection – pretty much everything I can do in the handheld, I can do via my car’s audio system. Same is true with my cool high-end home audio system…for a few bucks, I can get an integrated iPod dock that connects my iPod to my home theater system. No way I get these capabilities with the Philips.

Then there’s the whole video thing. While the expanded storage options on the Philips make it a good choice for video, I suppose in the end, I’d much rather be using an iPad or some other tablet if I’m doing lots of video. Of course, any of these options cost several times more than the Philips, so certainly there’s an argument in favor of the Philips based on low cost.

In the end, the Philips is good execution on a specialized design. Whether this makes it worthwhile for you depends on whether you value the additional flexibility found in devices like the iPod. But if you’re looking for what the Philips does best – lots of music file formats, plenty of memory, rugged, high quality audio – then the Philips GoGear Muse might be just the thing you’ve been looking for.

Nice MP3 Player

By Mystery Maven

This is a nice MP3 player. Nice sound, earphones are good. My only problem with it was that it is so hard to change settings. You use the same buttons at different times to do different tasks, and I have a hard time doing the right thing at the right time. I had to get my husband to help me. But if you are technologically proficient, you probably won’t have any problems manipulating the buttons properly.
